Sony CyberShot DSC-H55 14.1MP Compact Digital Camera

Get serious about great images

Feature-packed yet compact and easy to handle with advanced features like Sweep Panorama to add an extra dimension to your passion for great pictures.

  • The camera that thinks it’s a camcorder
Left your camcorder behind? Don't worry: now you can capture crisp, clear HD movie clips at an incredible 30 frames per second for smooth, clear action. Watch the results on your BRAVIA television: you'll be amazed by the quality, detail and colour.

  • Experience the whole picture
Now it's easy to grab breathtaking wide-screen views of that landscape or city scene. Sweep Panorama mode shoots a high-speed burst of frames as you sweep the camera from side to side (or up and down!). Images are stitched together automatically by the camera to create one amazing panoramic image.

  • No more camera shake
Wobbly pictures caused by unsteady hands are a common problem when you’re shooting without a tripod. Optical SteadyShot Active Mode Image stabilisation cuts the effects of camera shake for clear, steady photos and video clips, even if you’re walking along while shooting.

  • Upload the moment
Upload those memories to your favourite sharing sites on the web with a few mouse clicks. PMB Portable software inside the camera lets you select and transfer photos and video clips to any web-connected PC: it’s great if you’re travelling and have a few minutes to drop into the nearest web café.

  • Better looking pictures made easy
Not sure how to pick the perfect camera settings to suit a particular scene? Don’t worry, help is at hand. Intelligent Auto (iAUTO) mode automatically adjusts exposure and other camera settings for optimum results in a wide range of shooting situations.

  • 10x optical zoom/25mm wide angle

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H55 Overview by Greg Scoblete and Stephanie Boozer Review Date: 05/25/2010 The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H55 digital camera is a 14.1-megapixel camera with a 10x optical zoom lens. Read more ...
PROSiAuto mode for camera-selected scene modes, Smile Shutter, Sweep Panorama, 10x optically stabilized zoom in a small package, Zoom available while recording video, 25mm wide-angle lens, Good corner sharpness, No geometric distortion to speak of, Very little chromatic aberration, Fast shutter lag,
CONSOveraggressive anti-noise processing affects all images regardless of ISO sensitivity, Slow shot-to-shot cycle time, Slow flash recharge, Panoramas are very soft, Soft video with noticeable image noise, Fairly large maximum print size, but the camera more often selects higher ISOs, limiting the size

Apart from the microphone, which I have to make conscious effort not to cover now, have found the camera to be good, well build and give results that are are very pleasing. Having had a Sony previously, the controls are very similar. Read more ...
PROSBrilliant camera and very easy to use. Quick start-up. The movie is very good quality, but very hungry on disc space. I bought a 2gig SDHC and it filled up very quickly with video. I will replace it with a 4 gig as a standard. The viewing screen is bright and can still be seen on a sunny day.
CONSOne major fault for me - which complete moron designed the case so that the microphone in the exact spot your thumb sits on the bottom of the camerawhen you are filming? At first I couldn't understand why the sound was muffled and the there was a lot mechanical noise on the video.

Meh
The camera doesn't focus very well either, sure it tries to focus on things, but without a face or a square object it really is lacking when it comes to trying to focus. Read more ...
PROSPanorama Sweep is pretty nice, 720p HD video is nice, face recognition and auto "smile" detection software is nice as well. Zoom in video.
CONSEverything is grainy. Video is grainy, and sometimes the video doesn't record properly on top of being grainy. However, seriously everything looks over-processed and even when you don't have the picture at native resolution it is very obvious
