Expertise: I am an IT professional, more software than hardware. Also home
Strengths: OS Compatibility and setup, printing speed, printing quality, ease of use.
Weaknesses: Scanning quality

Great Printer for multiple OS platforms
Bought this printer for mainly three reasons after doing extensive research on the web:

1. Recently upgraded my OS to Windows 7, and my old printer (Lexmark X75) did not work in Windows 7 anymore. Could not find support or updated drivers anywhere on the web.
2. I wanted a printer that would work in Ubuntu Linux as well.
3. Running cost of the inkjet was just getting ridiculously high, and the printer was very slow.

And this printer has not disappointed. It ticked all three boxes and then some. As far as operating system compatibility is concerned it comes with Linux support out the box and is very easy to setup, even for a Linux newbie such as myself.

The printing quality is very good and the printing speed is phenomenal. Compared to my old Lexmark X75 there is no comparison. I also like the fact that it has a counter that shows you how many prints you have made to keep track of how long consumables last, which has become an issue for me lately.

As far as running cost is concerned I cannot comment yet, but from what I have read this should cost me a lot cheaper to use than inkjet, but I'll maybe update my review once I have had to replace the first toner cartridge.

The fact that the paper tray is closed is great because the printer always occupies the same footprint on your desk and you can load a lot of paper without the paper becoming bent or covered with dust over time.

What I also like is the fact that this is a full function MFP. You can use it to make copies without having to switch on your PC, which was not the case with my previous "MFP". And speaking of copies, the quality is great, you would not know which was the original and which is the copy.

The scanning quality is good for a MFP, but as can be expected not as good as high end dedicated flatbed scanners, so if you're in need if a top notch scanner rather invest in a flatbed, but it is fine for everyday normal scaning jobs.

The printer's construction seems sound. It might not stand up to multiple users, but in a home or home office setup I cannot see why it should break easily except if it is abused.

All in all I am very happy with my purchase and for the price I think this is a very good MFP laser printer.

Samsung SCX-4600
The Same from Dell, but More Expensive The Samsung SCX-4600 and the Dell 1133 are identical, and all that changes is the logo-and the price! Dell is still selling its version at full price, while Samsung has decided to get rid of its remaining 4600s by selling them off at half price. Read more ...

Great printer for a low TCO laser.
I needed a low total cost of ownership laser printer, and this unit fits the bill perfectly. I will probably never use the copy function, but the scan and print features are great. A good choice for a low cost laser. Read more ...
