Nikon design goes beyond slim contours and sophisticated operation by engineering a precision wide-angle 10x zoom, NIKKOR ED glass lens into the thinnest camera in its class. *With wide through super-telephoto coverage, the creative freedom afforded by this new lens forms a perfect blend with the other creative features of the COOLPIX S8000.

Four advanced image stabilization features ensure sharper results

Advanced flash control combines with lens shift VR image stabilization, advanced Motion Detection, and ISO 1600 capability at any image size up to its maximum (4320 x 3240), to help ensure consistently sharp results.

Creative Slider is the fun new way to express your creative side

Creative Slider places a rich variety of creative effects at your disposal when shooting in Auto Mode. Adjust brightness, saturation and color tone using the handy Rotary Multi Selector, all while watching a real-time preview on the 3-in. LCD monitor.

High-Definition movie recording

A dedicated Movie button makes it easy to record up to 1.5 hours* of 720p HD movie with stereo sound.

*Recording stops automatically after 29 minutes. This figure is based on in-house testing standards and stated for recording at 25°C (77°F) with a fully charged EN-EL12 battery. Actual results may vary greatly depending on factors that include differences in ambient temperature, and the amount of zoom and autofocus operations used.

Nikon Coolpix S8000 review
Bought this camera to compliment my DSLR (D300) and replace my Samsung NV11 which only has 5x optical zoom (38-190mm) because of it's 10x ability and its a pocket sized unit. A decent camera especially when its less than $300 & it fits in your pocket. HD video is also very nice. Read more ...

CONSmy first purchased unit had a strange sound when recording video. returned and 2nd unit is fine. 2x digital zoom for hd video is dumb. should have allowed optical zoom even if they disabled the sound to prevent recording the noise from the zoom mechanism
