Strengths: Plug and Play. It's a very simple device.
Can be used as an MP3 player or video playback off USB media.
Weaknesses: Stereo audio output only, so if you have 5.1+ surround etc, don't use this as a feed through for DVD players etc.
Best uses: Using USB media on a TV or similar which doesn't have USB inputs but does have HDMI.
Quicky Easy Media Player
I picked up this media player solely for its use with USB Media on a TV who's USB port was dedicated to pictures and music only. As a result, video codecs were not recognised.
Doing firmware upgrades on the TV didn't fix the problem. Short of buying a new TV, it was a lot easier to get this as a go between or adapter through use of the HDMI port.
No setup really required, most of the default settings suffice, and the TV quickly picked up the unit.
I plugged a flash disc in and most general video codecs were recognised. It has auto detection when you plug something in.
You can change the aspect ratios, 8band audio equilisation (adjusting the treble / bass).
It shows auto recognition of CDs / DVDs etc but I haven't found a CD player with USB out to test with so have only tested with USB media thus far.
