EF 20 mm f/2.8 USM

CONSaverage image quality at the frame edge, a bit too high chromatic aberration, huge vignetting even on an APS-C sensor, weak work against bright light

Canon EF 20mm f/2.8 USM
The focal length of this prime lens from Canon is on the edge of ultra wide angle when used on a full frame sensor or the 35mm film it was originally designed for. Even on a cropped sensor, it provides a good angle of coverage. We take a look at how it performs. Read more ...
PROSGood build and finish, Nice focal length on Full Frame cameras, Silent and fast autofocus, Good image quality
CONSNot that useful on cropped sensors, Stiff manual focus ring (on example tested, Distortion worse than on modern designs (minor point, Hood not included with lens

Canon EF 20mm f/2.8 USM
The Canon EF 20mm f/2.8 USM was released back in 1992 and it's one of the older designs in the current lens lineup. On APS-C DSLRs the field-of-view is equivalent to 32mm so it looses its ultra-wide character towards a moderate wide-angle lens here. Read more ...

Great landscape lens.
I have been using this mainly for landscape photography, I don't really have any other use for it. I guess some photographer might use it for large group photos and the like but I would think there might be a little to much distortion for that, but that's just me. Read more ...

Panned by the press, So what?
Have had this lens since the mid 1990's when the street price was high. Yes there is corner falloff and vignetting in a 5D MKll, so what shoot around those limitations and you have one fine lens. Stacking filters is not a good idea. Read more ...
PROSexcellent close ups, great dof, light weight/small, very sharp
CONSfalloff/vignetting, can't stack filters

I am so glad I bought this lens that's now the default lens on my Canon 7D.
I use my Canon 7D mostly to shoot video. Mine came with a zoom that's totally mediocre and I bought right away a 50 mm 1.4 lens that works magic in low light situations. However 50 mm is too narrow in most situations. Read more ...
