Asus ROG Strix Scar Edition

Absolute Precision

ROG Strix SCAR Edition is built exclusively for the sharpest shooters in the meanest gunfights. This gaming laptop is designed to give you a competitive edge in FPS esports titles like Counter-Strike, Overwatch, and Team Fortress 2. Feel the power of Windows 10 Pro, the latest 8th Generation Intel Core i7 processors, and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 10-Series graphics; and enjoy the smoothest and most accurate visuals ever on an IPS-level display with a 144Hz refresh rate, 3ms response time, and NVIDIA G-SYNC technology. With a desktop-style Aura Sync-enabled keyboard, N-key rollover, and fast-actuating keys, Strix SCAR Edition keeps you centered on the maps — so you’ll rank high, and take out targets with absolute precision!

For Top FPS Marksmen

Taking both its name and design inspiration from the FN SCAR assault rifle, Strix SCAR Edition is designed for top marksmen. Like its namesake, Strix SCAR Edition pairs agility with performance, packing all its lethal firepower into a compact chassis with a thin 2.4cm profile, and an overall weight of just 2.6kg! And it looks the part, too — its Gunmetal Grey finish mirrors that of the deadly weapon.

  • Specifications may vary according to configuration.

Combat-Proven Computing Power

Strix SCAR Edition is powered by up to the latest 8th Generation Intel Core i7-8750H six-core processor for extreme performance. You can even upgrade your arsenal with a choice of NVIDIA GeForce GTX 10-Series graphics cards — choose from a GTX 1050 Ti all the way up to a GTX 1070. Cutting-edge storage, such as a 512GB M.2 NVMe PCIe 3.0 x4 SSD and a 1TB Seagate FireCuda SSHD, plus 32GB of DDR4 2666MHz memory, guarantee superior performance. Whichever configuration you choose, Strix SCAR Edition is armed to the teeth, with combat-proven computing power to rule the game.

  • Specifications may vary according to configuration.

Stay Focused. Take the Shot.

The difference between defeat and victory is measured in fractions of a second. Strix SCAR Edition upgrades your vision, with an IPS-level display with a 144Hz refresh rate and 3ms response time to deliver smooth, accurate visuals, as well as reduce lag and motion blur. The 300cd/m² panel ensures 20%-brighter visuals than low-end IPS panels from competitors. Give your aim an upgrade, and sharpen your sights for the crucial moment of the shot!

  • Specifications may vary according to configuration.

NVIDIA G-SYNC technology synchronizes the display’s refresh rate with the GPU’s frame rate to make gameplay silky smooth. G-SYNC minimizes perceived stuttering, reduces input lag, and eliminates visual tearing all without affecting system performance. Strix SCAR Edition is also compatible with G-SYNC monitors via Mini DisplayPort. Whichever way you play, you get the smoothest and fastest experience even in the fiercest gunfights.

  • NVIDIA G-SYNC only available in GTX 1070-equipped models

Action-Packed Virtual Reality

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 and 1070 Series VR-ready graphics put you in the midst of the action. Shooting games are hugely popular in the VR world so level up your marksmanship in a smooth, low-latency, and stutter-free setting.

  • GeForce GTX 1060 or better is required for smooth VR experiences.

Absolute Precision with Every Keystroke

Strix SCAR Edition puts decisive control at your fingertips, with a brand-new desktop-inspired keyboard layout featuring four hotkeys, four customizable RGB-backlit zones, and ergonomic 0.25mm keycap curves that are comfortable to the touch. ROG-exclusive Overstroke technology enables earlier actuation and a longer over-stroke distance, enabling fast, accurate and effortless keystrokes that increase your actions per minute. Specially highlighted WASD keys and N-key rollover further boost your precision, and with the action guaranteed for 20-million key presses your kill count will just keep on rising!

Aura Sync for Ultimate Personalization

Aura Sync technology gives you the freedom to customize and sync up light effects with Aura Sync-supported gaming mice, headsets, and other peripherals to give your entire gaming setup a consistent look and feel. With a full spectrum of colors to choose from, as well as seven different lighting modes that can be accessed via the Aura control panel, Aura Sync technology lets you express your gaming persona, or the feel of the game you’re currently playing.

Side-Firing Speakers for Improved Situational Awareness

Strix SCAR Edition delivers clearer, louder, and more accurate audio so every action sounds real, all powerfully delivered through two expansive side-firing speakers which provide surround audio effects so you’ll know where an enemy is approaching from. With this immersive stereo audio, even the quietest sounds can be heard, so you’ll pick up on every hidden movement. Smart-amplifier technology monitors the audio output and makes real-time adjustments, so you can pump up the volume without worrying about damaging the cones — and that makes output up to 200% louder than before, with increased dynamic range and bass. Sonic Studio III provides high quality in-game audio, as well as improved streaming and audio recording for perfect voice pickup and noise reduction. Every little advantage aids your march to victory — and Strix SCAR Edition ensures you hear every precise audio cue!

Armed with ROG Gaming Center

Summon ROG Gaming Center with a single press of a hotkey to see a comprehensive dashboard with loads of useful information, including both CPU and GPU frequencies and temperatures — and use the control panel to make adjustments in real time. ROG GameFirst, GameVisual, Sonic Studio, Sonic Radar, Aura Core, as well as XSplit Gamecaster, can also be accessed through ROG Gaming Center. With ROG Gaming Center, you can even save different game settings and parameters in the cloud so you can access them even when you change laptops. It offers improved compatibility with all ROG software, including software for ROG graphics cards. ROG Gaming Center is even available via the ROG Android or iOS apps, so you can keep all the controls close at hand.

  • Software and compatibility may vary by product model.

ROG GameFirst V technology maximizes throughput for your game! It prioritizes network packets for increased bandwith for online gaming and streaming. Auto mode prioritizes all of your applications; while Manual mode lets you categorize programs and prioritize them accordingly. In addition, ROG First ensures ROG routers and Asus RT series routers prioritize packets according to the GameFirst V settings in your ROG laptop.

ROG GameVisual software provides six preset modes for different game genres and mutimedia. ROG software engineers have fine-tuned each setting to deliver visual and excellence that perfectly complements the game genre. First Person Shooter (FPS) mode, for example, enhances visibility in dark environments - so you'll see details denied to your enemies, for a clearer shot with every pull of the trigger!

Sonic Studio III

Sonic Studio III is a useful suite of tools to support all of your in-game audio needs. A control panel gives you access to five different audio modes, and even lets you manually adjust settings. This software suite also provides noise cancellation, voice-volume stabilization, and echo cancellation during recording.

Sonic Radar III

The Sonic Radar III audio engine processes sounds more accurately than ever, so you're always aware of what's going on around you. Use the on-screen arrow to hone your enemy-pinpointing skills, and enjoy visualized audio detail that eliminates the need to crank up the volume - the perfect tool for practice rounds and tuning untrained ears.

Aura Core

With Aura Core, you're free to customize your keyboard's RGB lighting to suit your gaming style, with an easy-to-use control panel offering easy command over a spectrum of brilliant colors and seven preset lighting modes. You can activate AURA SYNC via Aura Core as well.

XSplit Gamecaster

A lifetime subscription to XSplit Gamecaster Standard allows you to live stream and broadcast directly to Internet streaming platforms, or make recordings for easy sharing online.

Android/iOS App

Keep ROG Gaming Center close at hand with the Android or iOS app on your smartphone or tablet, so you can access it without interrupting your game. What's more, they're free to download fro Google Play and the App Store

Stay Cool Under Fire

Strix SCAR Edition has a specially-designed cooling system that improves airflow and system durability to keep you going during intense gaming sessions. The intelligent thermal design employs three fans that automatically adjust themselves to optimize CPU, GPU, and VRAM performance. Intake vents situated above the keyboard and underside of the chassis improve airflow into the system; while the patented trapezoid-cut lid design* doesn’t interfere with the air tunnels and hot exhaust at the rear of the laptop. The patented Anti-Dust Cooling system expels dust particles and dirt to improve system reliability and durability. In addition, the two main fans have been upgraded to 12V and spin much faster than regular 5V fans, boosting airflow and increasing air pressure to improve cooling efficiency — so you’ll keep a cool head even under fire!

Quick-Access Gaming Connections

Strix SCAR Edition comes with USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C™, up to four USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A, HDMI 2.0 (supports 4K UHD output at 60 FPS), and Mini DisplayPort 1.2 ports, so connecting the latest, greatest gaming peripherals is a cinch.

Maximum Bandwidth, Minimum Energy Consumption

Strix SCAR Edition features the latest 802.11ac 2x2 Wave 2 Wi-Fi standard, with two antennas each for both transmission and reception, for speeds that are up to 1.7Gbps. That’s 2x faster than 802.11ac 2x2 and 12x faster than 802.11b/g/n! The 2x2 wireless configuration provides up to 30% more coverage than the 1x1 configuration. A more reliable and robust wireless connection ensures better gaming experiences. ROG First also ensures ROG routers and ASUS RT-series routers prioritize packets according to the GameFirst V settings in your ROG laptop for faster, more stable connections. Strix SCAR Edition even has low-energy Bluetooth® 4.1, enabling you to game longer and more reliably with your Bluetooth peripherals!

Asus ROG Strix GL703GM Scar Edition (8750H, GTX 1060, FHD 120 Hz) Laptop Review by Bernie Pechlaner from 07/02/2018
Cooler, faster, better. The mid-2018 edition of the Strix GL703 Scar Edition comes with hexa-core Coffee Lake-H i7 processor, same Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 graphics and a significantly redesigned cooling system. The changes are largely positive.

The Asus ROG Strix GL703VM Scar Edition we reviewed earlier this year gets the Coffee Lake-H treatment and now features an i7-8750H hexa-core processor and unchanged Nvidia GTX 1060 graphics. In addition to the obvious CPU upgrade, Asus appears to have revamped the motherboard layout and the cooling system - at least when compared to the "regular" GL703VD we reviewed in 2017. Both previous editions were hot and too noisy under load, so we can only applaud this design change.... Read full review ...

REVIEW: Asus ROG Strix GL703GS SCAR Edition – i7-8750H, GTX 1070 and 17-inch screen with GSync by Andrei Girbea from 03/09/2018
Summary: The updated 2018 version of the Asus ROG SCAR Edition is one one the best balanced 17-inch gaming laptops out there. It's built well, is fairly compact and light for its class, it includes the latest in terms of hardware specs and a fast 144 Hz screen with GSync. Last, but definitely not least, it performs admirable in games and other demanding loads. It can get very loud though, and due to GSync it's not going to last for long on a charge. Asus ROG Strix Scar Edition review by Michelle Rae Uy from 30/05/2018
Following in the footsteps of the Asus ROG Strix GL502, which received our high praises for combining portability with power, the Asus ROG Strix Scar Edition has all the makings of a solid gaming machine. And, we mean that both literally, with its hefty built, and figuratively, with its gaming performance.

Unfortunately, it’s also inherited some of the GL502’s shortcomings, the worst of which is its battery life. Compared to Alienware 17 and the Gigabyte Aero 15’s batteries, the Strix Scar Edition’s battery life is pretty unimpressive.

Thankfully, the laptop makes up for that with sleek, subtle gaming style, lots of gaming firepower, a fantastic keyboard and surprisingly robust sound. That package ain’t too shabby, and makes it easier to overlook the underwhelming battery in exchange.... Read full review ...

Review: Asus 1060 notebook (GL703GM) by Garth Holden from 26/06/2018
Normally when I review a notebook I treat it like a desktop machine. It gets put on a desk, plugged into a wall and tested for CPU, GPU and thermals. This notebook arrived when I had to travel to E3, so things went a bit differently. I used it as a notebook, not just a slave secondary PC.

While I was honestly hoping that having a GTX 1060 under the hood meant I would get some time for some cheeky Civilization VI while travelling, work at E3 had other ideas. It was light enough to carry around while going around the various airports, and I managed to get some last minute typing done while waiting for flights. The ROG line of Asus notebooks screams gamer though, as does the loud, dramatic noise every time you boot the machine. Despite this it runs well without power for long enough that I would often work in the evening without plugging in until much later in the evening, meaning I could move around or use the notebook as a TV. Unless I was doing video editing, then it was straight to a wall socket to let the crunching start. Thankfully this notebook handled the video files I threw at it without issue, even the 4K files from the high-end capture devices that Ubisoft was using.... Read full review ...

Asus RoG Strix GL703VM Scar Edition review by Andrew Williams from 07/02/2018
The Asus RoG Strix GL703VM is a high performance gaming laptop that isn’t so big and heavy that moving it between rooms seems like a grand operation. It’s still a 17in laptop, so you won’t want to carry it around all day, every day, but it’s easier to live with than the lumbering beasts among gaming laptops.

It has the performance, the look and the display quality.

There are just a few Asus RoG Strix GL703VM issues to consider. Battery life is poor, the relatively slim frame sees heat bleed out to the keyboard after a stint of gaming and some of you may prefer the keyboards of the fatter models from Asus, Alienware and Acer.

It also uses last-gen processors, mostly because at the time of manufacture (and review) they are still the best option.

Also check out the Asus ROG Zephyrus S - the world's thinnest gaming laptop.... Read full review ...
